Adrian brings 22+ years of executive management, business development and product launch experience.  Prior to joining Diatomix, Adrian provided executive consulting services to companies on strategic initiatives, operations and business development to over a dozen companies.  Earlier, he spent 13 years at SAM Medical, a global provider and manufacturer of emergency medical products where he was President, COO and earlier as VP of Research and Development.  Before, he was VP of Research and Development at DermaSafe Systems, a medical materials startup. Adrian has served on a number of industry association boards, including the Oregon Bioscience Association, which he chaired in 2013 and the Oregon Manufacturing Extension Partnerships which he chaired in 2012-13. He earned a BS degree in chemistry from the University of Michigan and a PhD in biomedical engineering from Oxford University, England.

Nick is a polymer photo-electrochemistry expert specializing on titanium dioxide photocatalysis on VOCs and the effect of VOCs on human health.  He is Chief Technology Officer at Diatomix, a biochemicals company developing an active paint additive to degrade indoor air VOCs.  He leads product development activity and manufacturing scale-up.  Before joining Diatomix, Dr. Day was a Senior Scientist at Puralytics, producer of titanium dioxide catalysis water purification products.  Dr. Day also spent 3 years at The Buck Institute for Age Related Diseases, a biotech company, where he specialized on the effect of oxidative damage to multicellular organisms. Dr. Day has a BS in Biochemistry from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Portland State University.

Joshua Olsen has expertise in the design, construction, and implementation of electronic utilities and test equipment.  He is responsible for managing all lab testing and experiments, sensor development and coordination with independent testing facilities.  He was a Lab Technician at a veterinary clinic for 4 years before joining Diatomix.  Joshua has a BS in Physics from Portland State University.

Abby is an R&D Chemist working toward the scale up of synthesis at Diatomix. She was previously a biology stockroom assistant at Linn Benton Community College, and a research assistant studying the kinetics of medications at Portland State University, where she received her BS in Chemistry.

Bill is an experienced chemical engineer with MBA who has focused on technology development throughout his career. During his 30+ years at CH2M, an international engineering, design & construction company, where his responsibilities included identifying and developing new technologies for the benefit of CH2M’s clients. Bill is a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and served as President of AIChE in 2004. He is a licensed professional engineer in Oregon in both Chemical and Environmental Engineering and is a Board Certified Environmental Engineer as administered by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists. He was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor society for business, and was inducted into Oregon State University’s Academy of Distinguished Engineers in 1998. He is an experienced Angel investor, with investments in a substantial portfolio of companies.

John Brewer is a co-founder of Amorphyx and its CEO and President. John is also an Entrepreneur in Residence with the Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute (ONAMI), where he assists with the creation of companies and jobs through commercializing technologies developed by Oregon’s research universities. John has 28 years of experience in the semiconductor and wireless industries, encompassing the disciplines of engineering, marketing, and executive management.  In 2011, John completed a five-year tenure as VP of Corporate and Business Development, and VP of Marketing, with SiGe Semiconductor.  He helped turn the company from near-failure to completing its IPO filing and eventual sale to Skyworks Solutions.  Since 1986, Brewer has either founded or been an early key participant in seven venture capital-funded wireless technology startups, including two university spinouts.  He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University.

Since 2006, Cindy Dahl has been Vice President, Operations at Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute (ONAMI). She has 25 years of experience as a consulting engineer to industrial and governmental clients throughout the country. She spent 18 years with CH2M HILL (Jacobs) in Corvallis, Oregon, including 6 years as the area manager. In that role, she worked with other business and governmental agencies to plan and promote economic development in Oregon. Cindy is a licensed professional engineer.  She has Bachelor of Science in civil engineering and a Master’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of Illinois. Her areas of expertise include Superfund site remediation, regulatory strategy and negotiation.

Charles (Chuck) Dowd had a 40+ year career with Fortune 500 manufacturing companies, with a focus on product development of consumer and industrial products.  He held positions of increasing responsibility with Litton Industries, Rockwell International, Maytag and Masco, where he retired in 2007 as Group President – Architectural Products, after having been President of Delta Faucet Company , a Division of Masco, from 1988-1999. As Group President-Architectural, he was lead executive in acquiring for Masco and managing companies such as Behr Paint, Milgard Windows, Masterchem Industries Ltd., Vapor Technologies, Inc., and a number of additional consumer durable and related technology companies, domestic and foreign. The Architectural Products Group posted annual sales of $3.3B and operations in North America, Europe, and Asia under his direction. Chuck has held, or continues to hold positions on the Board of Directors of six different private, multi-generational for-profit companies.  After graduating from Columbia University (BSEE) and Hamilton College (BA -Mathematics) in the joint “3-2” Program, Chuck went on to the University of Rochester, where he received an MBA in Finance and Marketing.

David is Managing Partner at Reference Capital Management.  Most recently, he was the CEO of ShoreBank Pacific, an economic development bank headquartered in rural Washington with loans to more than 200 companies. The bank was grown from no deposits and few loans to $234 Million in assets under his tenure before being sold in 2011. As CEO, Williams spoke at a national level on issues such as: sustainability, green buildings, and the economics of crises. He is a physicist who taught for 14 years before becoming a serial entrepreneur in oil and gas and steel fabrication.  He has served and continues to serve on the board of directors of several for-profit entities and has served and continues to serve on the board of several non-profits including the Columbia Land Trust. David holds an AB in Physics from Whitman College, an MAT in Physics from Reed College, and an MBA in Economics from the University of Washington.

Tom is a retired paint industry executive who has remained active in the industry. Tom served as vice president at Valspar Corporation where he managed the company’s Canadian company and North American powder coating business. Tom also spent 10 years as a senior vice president at Sherwin-Williams Company where he was responsible for technology management and corporate environmental and health compliance. Tom holds a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and Ph.D. in metallurgy and materials science from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he has served on the Board of Trustees.  

Thomas Krotine, PhD 

Karl is currently Director of Oregon State University’s Advantage Accelerator, an incubator of spin out companies for OSU. He is past Entrepreneur-in-Residence and Director of Research at Oregon BEST.  Karl was CEO of BioReaction Industries, whose product was a microbe technology able to eliminate VOCs. He successfully led efforts to sell the company to a strategic.  Prior, he was VP of Marketing & Sales for GardenBurger. Karl has a BS in Science and Business Administration from Oregon State University and a MBA in Entrepreneurship from Concordia University.

Ricardo is a long-time paint and coatings executive from Brazil with expertise in architectural, OEM and General Industry, and panit processing production areas.  He spent more than 22 years in senior R&D leadership roles at PPG, Akzo Nobel and Dow Chemical.  He is a speaker at national conferences, forums, seminars and lectures on the subject and the co-author of the ABRAFATI book: Tintas e Vernizes – Ciência e Technologia (Paints and Varnishes - Science and Technology.) The book is now in its 4th edition and has been used as a text book resource by Academic Institutions across Brazil and has been translated into several other languages.  Today, Ricardo is currently an industry consultant and Professor of Paints & Coatings at the School of Engineering  at Pós-Graduação Oswaldo Cruz University, Brazil.  He serves on the board of ABRAFATI, the Brazilian Association of Paint Manufacturers.  He has a BS degree in Chemistry from Oswaldo Cruz University, Brazil.
